Encaustic painting & photography
Experience the ancient art of encaustic painting and learn how to add a dreamy touch to your photos using fire, beeswax, and pigment. In this workshop, you'll discover the unique techniques and creative possibilities of encaustic medium, while creating stunning works of art that combine the tactile qualities of wax with your own photographic imagery. The layers possible in encaustic creates depth, luminosity, texture takes the photograph to another level by imbuing it with an emotional timbre that makes the photo “painterly.” The atmospheric effects capable with encaustic allows for subtle variations in tone. Workshop Activities:
I. Inspiration for the possibilities of Encaustic Photography through a historical presentation. Choosing your composition. Printing the image on Japanese rice paper.
II Applying your print to a wood panel with gel medium/gesso.
III Adding layers using encaustic. Demonstration of encaustic technique.
IV Adding texture through different tools (including dental tools). Adding color through oil stick, pan pastels, crayan d’Arch.

All necessary materials, including paper, 6X6 wood panel, encaustic medium, oil sticks, crayan d’ Arche, pan pastels
Instruction and guidance from a professional encaustic artist
One-on-one assistance and feedback
Access to a safe and clean studio space
